WANDERERS EDGE PAST LOCAL RIVALS
26 January 2008
Wessex Wanderers 4 v 2 Tyndalls Park Rangers
Wessex Wanderers continued their good run by beating Tyndalls Pak Rangers 4 v 2 at the Civil Service ground.
After the recent cup distractions and a two week lay off due to bad weather the Wanderers put in a below par rusty performance but still had enough quality to edge out their local rivals.
The home side took the lead when winger Gary Russell latched onto a Jamie Carnevale cross to head Wessex in front. An Aaron Pullin free kick was deflected into the Rangers net to make it 2 v 0 followed by a freak Shaun Bartlett header which some how crept into the Tyndalls goal.
Midway through the first half Kevin Curtis was substituted when he landed awkwardly following a mid air challenge. It is believed the influential midfielder will now be out of action for 2 – 3 weeks.
A nervy start to the second period saw the Wanderers struggling to get out of their own half and when TPR scored their second goal to make the score 3 v 2 the Wessex faithful began to get nervy. Despite the constant TPR pressure Wessex were able to kill the game off when Scott Newman’s ball found Louis Perryman who beat the keeper from close range.
