WESSEX SEAL GFA SEMI-FINAL SPOT

05 January 2008

Hare on the Hill 0 v 4 Wessex Wanderers

Wessex Wanderers cruised into the semi-final of the GFA cup after an impressive 0 v 4 away win over Downs League side Hare on the Hill. A first half hat-trick by Lewis Perryman and a goal from strike partner Jamie Carnevale was enough to ensure victory and a semi-final encounter with Made Forever FC.

On a wet and windy afternoon Wessex Wanderers produced a fantastic first half performance to knock out opponents Hare on the Hill. The black and whites began the game confidently, totally dominated the Downs League team. As the game unfolded, Wessex found it extremely easy to open up the Hill defence, who were unable to deal with the Wanderers slick passing game.

Kevin Curtis was running the show in the centre of midfield but it was Lee Dorgan who set up the first Wanderers goal. A perfectly weighted pass found top scorer Perryman who placed the ball into the top corner from eight yards. A second soon followed after Aaron Pullin and Shaun Bartlett linked up well on the right, Bartlett was able to beat his man and fire in a cross that was met by the chest of Carnevale for his tenth goal of the season.

Wanderers continued to dominate and began to open up the Hill defence at will and it was a mistake by the Hare’s goalkeeper that allowed Perryman his second. Shortly before half time Perryman was in again with a delightful chip which secured his first Wessex hat-trick.
