AXA BLOWN AWAY BY WESSEX VICTORY

08 December 2007

AXA Reserves 1 v 3 Wessex Wanderers

A storming first half performance from Wessex overwhelmed Bristol & District Senior Division side AXA Reserves as the Wanderers booked themselves a place in the GFA Quarter Finals and a tie against Hare On The Hill.

Lewis Perrymans 22-yard strike put the visitors ahead before Kevin Curtis rifled in the Black and Whites second on a very wet and windy day at the AXA Sports Ground.

In the first half the Wanderers took full advantage of having the wind behind them and were a constant threat on the AXA goal. Steve Pocock was unlucky to have what seemed a perfectly good goal ruled out for offside.

Up the other end Carl Bush and his defence survived a few scary moments but coped far better than their opponents in the extreme weather conditions.

In the second half AXA pulled one back and with the wind against them Wessex were working hard to play the ball out of their own half.

Wessex stayed firm at the back and mounted a number of counter attacks looking for a third goal to kill the game off, which finally arrived in the 85 minutes when Lewis Perryman grabbed his 15th goal of the season with a fine low drive.
