WESSEX GO TOP OF DIVISION 2

20 October 2007

Wessex Wanderers 4 v 0 Fishponds Old Boys

Wessex Wanderers attacking duo, Jamie Carnevale and Lewis Perryman shot their side to the top of the table with 2 goals apiece in a comfortable 4 v 0 victory over Fishponds Old Boys.

Striker Carnevale started the ball rolling, showing good strength and composure to drill the Wanderers into a early lead after good initial work from midfield man Kevin Curtis.

Just before the break, Perryman notched his eighth goal of the season with a near post shot following a Carnevale flick on.

The Wanderers played some of their best football of the season and confirmed their dominance when Carnevale headed in from close range in the 70th minute.

Fishponds rarely tested Carl Bush, though the Wanderers keeper did well to palm away a good shot in the second half.

All three points were wrapped up when another Curtis through ball found Perryman who made no mistake from ten yards.

In a post match interview the resurgent Carnevale had this to say to his critics. "It’s true I’ve faced a lot of criticism of late but it just goes to show that even carthorses deliver beer sometimes!".

The victory moves Wessex clear at the top of Division 2 with two games in hand on their promotion rivals.
