WHITCHURCH HIT FOR SIX
28 February 2009
Wessex Wanderers 6 v 1 Whitchurch
Wessex Wanderers sit 4th in the Bristol Suburban Premier League 2 after an impressive 6 v 1 victory over struggling Whitchurch. With confidence regained after a couple of good performances in recent weeks, Wessex started the match lively playing good passing football and had the visitors on the back foot for majority of the game.
Ricky Bush scored the opening goal after 15 minutes when his shot from the edge of the area was spilled by the Whitchurch keeper and end up in the bottom corner on the net. Stuart Smart added a second midway through the half before Bush added a third shortly afterwards.
Aaron Anderson’s strike early in the second effectively killed the game off and substitute Lewis Perryman made an instant impression by adding a fifth. The home team took their foot off the gas for the remainder of the game, which allowed Whichurch to score a conciliation goal with fifthteen minutes remaining before Perryman added his second to complete the scoring.
Wessex manager Shaun Hawkings was upbeat after watching his team record their highest victory of the season "It was good to see the lads convert our chances today, we’ve struggled a bit in front of goal this year but now that’s 9 goals in our last two matches, so hopefully confidence will remain high for the rest of the season."
